Besides the fact that I know a couple people like to check out my newest bookmarks and the seo benefit of frequent updates even when I’m not writing articles, bookmark auto-posts serve one very amusing function: Spam catching. Kind of like the cow-catchers on the front of a train, if you see a message that says “Very informative but will you write more on this subject?” or “I never thought of it that way. I will be a frequent reader now.” on a bookmark-only post, you can be pretty safe in relegating that IP to spam hell… thereby avoiding the flood of spam that often follows those test comments from spammers.
