I have a tendency to use my gouache like watercolor, and my watercolor like gouache. So when I saw this set, I thought, I should try using gouache as gouache for an entire painting. Novel, I know.
I have used a few brands of gouache before but never the Winsor & Newton, so whatever we find testing it out is going to be as much a surprise to me as you.

This design began as an idea for a patch to debut in my shop during Pride. I drew it in Illustrator to the required specs for machine embroidery through a partner, including limited colors and taking stitching width requirements into account.
I liked this design so much when the patches were finished that I decided to put it on other products as well, including tshirts and blank journals. Each product has its own specs that it needed to be adapted to. Each different product also required its own trend and keyword research, product mockups, copywriting, price determination, etc.

Logo Design and Typography, in Fresco and Illustrator, and application to keepsake merchandise
The logo draws from a few influences. First, I wanted it to be grounded in the rural location the event was taking place. The painting in the background depicts a pond in the upper peninsula of Michigan very close to the farm, and I painted it from a photo taken by the organizer. The round border and spacing evoke small town seals and logos in the Midwest. Large swooshy red letters run at an angle across the scene, suggesting sporting, tailgating, festivals or music events.
The organizers used this logo online in invitations and web pages. Additionally, I adapted it to work with some keepsakes for attendees and handled production through printing partners.
T-shirts were the most important bit of swag. I worked with a small business to have these flex-printed and get them to any attendees who’d ordered them in time to wear them during the event. Going with a small vendor gave us a superior final product and allowed us to order only the sizes that we needed with no minimums.
The embroidery on the hats required a simplified, horizontal version of the logo.
I also adapted the logo to the technical requirements of sublimation printing on mugs and direct to garment printing on totes.
